A STUDY OF GRIEVANCE SETTLEMENT PRACTICES AND ITS CONTRIBUTION TOWARDS IMPROVING INDUSTRIAL RELATIONS

Abstract

Present study examines the grievance and their settlement procedure in industry and to know worker satisfaction toward settlement procedure. The proposed method in the study is the use of the comparative case study which is related and concern regarding to the grievance procedures in Diesels Locomotive Works (DLW). Out of 150 respondents we taken 1/3rd respondent (n=50) as study subjects and so selected every 3rd name from the list. The present study is determining the effectiveness of the grievance procedures within the organization and identifies the major factors that influence the quality of working life of employees and identify the appropriate techniques in handling the grievance within the organizations. Findings of the study shows maximum number of employees working in D.L.W. are aware about the grievances and its settlement procedure. Level of satisfaction provided by grievance handling committee is also high but most of the employees are not satisfied with the settlement procedure because the procedure is lengthy. Therefore emphasis should be given on grievance prevention and to provide a safe & healthy environment which will be conducive to promote healthy working and learning conditions.
