More than half of the world population is poor and a substantial part of it resides in metropolitans. Collectively, the metropolitan poor are a potential market and are easy to access. But to explore this untapped market, one has to understand their purchase behavior. On this, the present study collates and discusses all the existing literature pertinent to metropolitan poor consumer behavior and identifies the gaps in it. The review evokes that most of the studies on metropolitan poor are regarding the pricy impact of their living areas and their coping up with brands while other variables of import are yet to be covered. Ironical but true, most of the research has been conducted on the metropolitan poor of UK and USA only while most of the world’s metropolitan poor reside in developing countries, specifically in China and India. The review suggests that poor in metropolitan should be studied on all the significant consumer behavior variables globally so that the metropolitan poor’s buying behavior is germinated.
