Abstract

The present paper aims at studying the perceived parenting style and mental health of adolescents’ school students belonging to different religion i.e. Hindu, Muslim and Sikhs. 300 secondary school students from district Mewat, Ambala and Sonepat of Haryana State were taken as sample for the study. Data were collected by using purposive and random sampling techniques. Parental Authority Questionnaire developed by Buri (1999) and Mental Health Inventory standardised by Jagdish were used for the purpose. Results show that male and female students of urban and rural schools had similar mental health. Hindu and Sikhs students perceived authoritarian parenting style, while Muslim students perceived authoritative parenting style. No significant difference was found in the level of mental health of Hindu, Muslim, and Sikh adolescent students on the basis of religion and locale.
