ATOMIC SPECTROSCOPY AND ITS RECENT TRENDS

Abstract

The recent trends in atomic Spectroscopy have been developed to measure smaller energy level splitting of the atoms. First order Doppler broadening involving energy-momentum conservation of atom and photon corresponds to frequency intervals of the order of 109Hz. While Second order Doppler effect expressing the time dilation in the atomic rest frame corresponds to frequency intervals of 103Hz. Spectroscopy beyond the First order Doppler limit allows to measure most of the hyperfine structures, quantum electrodynamical shifts, recoil and Second order Doppler shifts.
