Abstract

This paper deals with effect of earthquake in various types of buildings, various factors related to damages during earthquake. The author was actively associated with assessment of large number of earthquake affected buildings in Gujarat and other places. The major causes leading to failures of large number of buildings have been analyzed and their remedial measures are discussed. Further, certain suggestions and recommendations are made in the paper, for avoiding similar type of failures in existing buildings and also for the buildings to be constructed in future.
