The relationship between price increases and evolution remains a controversial one in both theory and empirical verdicts. Originating in the Latin American context in the 1950s, the issue has generated an enduring debate between structuralists and monetarists. The structural believe that price increases is essential for pecuniary evolution, whereas the monetarists see price increases as harmful to pecuniary evolution.
