HINDI ADAPTATION OF DIENER’S FLOURISHING SCALE TO MEASURE WELL-BEING OF PATIENTS WITH TERMINAL AND CHRONIC DISEASES

Abstract

The present work was designed to adapt a tool to measure well-being of people, originally developed by Diener et al (2009). The adaptation of the tool has been made for Hindi language subjects. The subject patients suffering from terminal and chronic diseases like HIV/AIDS, Diabetes, High blood pressure, Thyroid and Arthritis. This scale consist 8 items. Hindi transliteral equivalent of this scale was developed using the cross- cultural methodology of translation back translation. Item were related to three domains. The initial form of questionnaire was devised a seven point scale to response. Item analysis was done on a sample of Hindi language subject. By using appropriate statistics the psychometric properties of the test established. The Hindi version overall co efficient alpha of this test was found to be high.
