Higher education in the Philippines is one of the few systems of higher education with a long history of private higher education. While in terms of absolute numbers the rise in the Local Universities and Colleges was also observed. The percentage of enrolments and graduates was higher for private institutes as compared to public institutes, but was declining by about 10 percentage. By disciplines, teacher education, Engineering and technology, IT related and Medicine and health had the highest share in terms of percentage of enrolment and graduates. However, the discipline of Maritime observed high growth in terms of both enrolment and graduates. A rise in the programs accredited could be observed over a period of the decade under study. Percentage of performance in licensure exams and faculties with a masters’ degree and Ph.D. degree has increased.
