Abstract
Mergers between higher education institutions do not have a long established history similar to the corporate sector. The mergers in higher education are varied and it includes horizontal mergers, vertical mergers or conglomerate mergers. Different countries that have experienced mergers in higher education that reflect a heterogeneous path. Various and varied factor have led to mergers. The process of mergers necessitates the integration of various stakeholders in a pragmatic manner for its success. Besides the advantages, there are several challenges associated with mergers. The present paper presents a brief review of the literature on mergers in higher education in the frame of factors, process considerations, advantages and challenges associated.
