Abstract

The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) sector has emerged as complementary for large industries as an ancillary units and it is enormously contributing to the enhancement of socio-economic profile of the country by providing large employment opportunities at lower cost comparatively than large industries. It also reduces regional imbalances by developing industrialization in backward and rural areas with that it assures more equitable distribution of national income and wealth. According to fourth all India census of MSME, it accounts for around 40 percent in total industrial production and 35 percent of the total exports of the country are directly recorded by this sector. Moreover, 14 million people got employment by this sector; it is second largest source for employment in India next only to agriculture. Hence, this paper attempted to explain the significant role of MSME in sustainable societal development.
