Abstract
An attempt was made to assess the effect of herbs viz., Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera) and Jiwanti (Leptadenia reticulate) alone and in combination (1:1 ratio) of both herbs as feed additive to achieve maximum efficiency of feed utilization from wheat straw based complete feed in goats. Twenty male goats were divided in four groups of five in each to study the feeding of complete feed with optimum levels of herb selected on the basis of the results of Phase – I on nutrient utilization efficiency. The experimental treatment groups designated as T1 (complete feed without any herb), T2 (complete feed + Ashwagandha herb at 3% level), T3 (complete feed + Jiwanti herb at 3% level), and T4 (complete feed + Ashwagandha and Jiwanti herbs (1:1 ratio) at 3% level) were subjected to feeding trial of 28 days followed by metabolism trial in goats.
