Majority of the Tribal’s in India live in remote forest areas and hilly regions, without exposure to modernity. Andhra Pradesh is one of the States where the Tribal population is in substantial number and their population in the State works out to 5.9 million. The interior Tribal’s are untouched by the modern marriage practices and adolescent marriage and pregnancy are quite common among them. Early marriages has a profound impact on childbearing as women who marry early have on an average a longer period of exposure to pregnancy and a greater number of lifetime births which result in low birth weight of infants. Adolescent pregnancy is a major risk factor for both mother and infant as the girl may not have finished growing making child birth dangerous.
