DIGITALIZATION OF ESIC SERVICES- A STUDY ON REACH OF ONLINE SERVICES AMONG INSURED PERSONS

The Employee State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) is the first Social Security Scheme of independent India. It is a carefully crafted legislation, ensuring a comprehensive social security to the working class of India. The Scheme was launched in the year 24th February,1952 to provide medical care and other need based benefits to the insured persons and their dependents in times of physical distress. ESI Scheme. An attempt was made in the study to find out the reach of ESI online services among the Insured persons,to discover the awareness of possessing a Pehchan Card and the satisfaction in benefits of having a Pehchan Card, and to identify the basic problems in registering for Pehchan Card.Primary data were collected from 250 respondents who were registered under the Coimbatore Region ESI Branch offices, through a questionnaire. The secondary data were collected from the Annual reports of ESIC, and publications of ESI.The analysis of the study reveals that although the Government is taking numerous steps in digitalization of various services, the insured persons are not having awareness about the online services and web portal introduced by the ESIC. When Government tries to bring transparency in its services through digitalization, equal importance should be given to create literacy to the users about how to use online services
