Abstract

Culture is a set of symbols, ceremonies and myths that communicate the underlying values and beliefs of an organization. It conveys important assumptions and norms governing activities and goals. It tells employees how things are to be done and what is important. By providing a complex social system of laws, values and customs, it conveys a message regarding the desirable and non desirable behaviours in an organization. Research on organization culture in health care sector is limited. Taking into consideration the limited study on health care sector, the present study was undertaken on three hospitals SKIMS, GMC and Fortis Chandigarh in India. The results revealed that culture in health care is above average. Managerial and non managerial staffs perceive the culture to be below satisfactory.
