Abstract

The National Defence of India has always been a topic of pride and strength be it the Army protecting the lands, the Air force reaching out to the diversified terrains of India or the Naval forces protecting the waters around the country but it is high time the issues regarding this were brought to light and discussed. Defence expenditure and budget has always been a very major part of the government which means the tax payer providing for his nation’s protection should know the answer to questions like ‘What has the defence been doing with this funding?’, ‘Where do we stand in terms of having war technologies?’ and its importing/exporting, ‘What have been the past failures?’ and most importantly how the revolutionary policies coming up such as ‘Make in India’ and FDI will have an impact on the defence industry from production levels and quality to strategising in terms of budgets to aim for maximum growth as there will be inflow of indigenous technology and resources to encourage privatisation and competition towards global entities. We aim to explain, compare, critic and analyse such policies in ways that will help any reader understand how this works, how it connects to the defence sector and last of all what does the future hold after all the failures and downfalls India has seen in this field.
