Abstract

Knowledge and niche skills gained over years by organizations are essential for innovation and transformation thereby bringing in competitive advantage. This knowledge is acquired and disseminated throughout a learning organization as it transforms and reinvents itself, adapting in response to the external environment. Individual learning is transferred into organizational learning through shared mental models and a strong facilitative leadership that encourages experimentation. This paper brings together theories proposed by various scholars on Learning Organizations and seeks to understand its applicability and relevance in the globalized world where the mobility of skilled individuals, access to corporate intelligence and a rapidly changing technology are rewriting the rules of the game.
