Abstract

One of the most significant phenomena of nineteenth century India was the introduction of female education. Although many women from respectable families had the chance to attain knowledge of different subjects, it was all domestic. Formal or institutional education was denied to them. So, when it was introduced, significant changes in society were inevitable. One of the most noteworthy results of it was the beginning of a new age of literature created by women. It can be called phenomenal as until then literature and all other forms of writing was an area dominated by men. This juncture of history is important from socio-economic and political point of view.
