Abstract

Organometallic compounds are the compounds which contain atleast one metal-carbon bond. Further, organometallic compounds also include the compounds in which carbon atom is bonded not only to metal atom but also to metalloids like boron, silicon, arsenic and tellurium. Organometallic compounds are of two types on the basis of nature of metal-carbon bond i.e. sigma bonded organometallic compounds and pi bonded organometallic compounds. Some related compounds such as transition metal hydrides and metal phosphine complexes are often included in discussions of organometallic chemistry combines aspects of traditional inorganic and organic chemistry. Organometallic compounds are widely used both stoichiometrically in research and industrial chemical reactions, as well as in the role of catalysts to increase the rates of such reactions, where target molecules include polymers, pharmaceuticals and many other types of practical products.
