Abstract

Numerical study of a fin for cooling of automobile engines has been conducted in the present study. A fin of different sizes by changing the aspect ratio A= (L/H) or length of the fin has been studied for effective cooling. Finite Difference Method (FDM) has been used to solve the two-dimensional heat conduction equation controlled by stability condition. Aluminium has been selected as a fin material. MATLAB has been used to simulate the governing equation and boundary conditions. Grid size of 61×61 has been found sufficient to capture the temperature distribution. Increase in fin length increase the cooling rate but up to a length of 3.0.
