Abstract

Swachh Bharat Abhiyan may have started on a high note, but cleaning up the country is a serious business. Apart from investment, it calls for behavioural changes, expertise and scientific knowledge. This is a good time to look at the magnitude of the problem and possible ways to clean up the country. Responding to Modi’s call to participate in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, it is really very overwhelming to see so many public and private companies supporting the mission and contributing towards its success. Each of these has already drawn up plans to fulfill their promises to construct toilets, provide sanitation and clean up their surroundings and support the mission. While a lot is written about the initiative, there are some serious thoughts required on opportunities to be exploited.
