MARWAR PAINTINGS BASED ON LOCAL STORIES AND POPULAR WORKS

A lot of painting work has been don on locally prevalent stories and popular works. Most of such paintings are found in illustrated texts. These local fables were so much prevalent in the life of local people that these were sung on ceremonial occasions. The Mathen artists who migrated from Bikaner. executed paintings mostly related to the Jain religion. Later on they prepared paintings based on local fables and giving importance to commercial spect, they promulgated such paintings among the populace. It was such a class of artists who did not perform in the darbari style but remained closely attached with the common man of society. they did not perform in the darbari style which was based on depiction in fine slender lines. In comparison to this, they took recourse to thick lines having a mixture of stiffness and tenderness. Besides this, their lines were dynamic, limited colour scheme, smaller figures having some stylistic influence.
