Abstract

Liver damage is one of the most common consequence of alcohol despite of an enormous amount of research effort, the mechanisms by which alcohol causes alcoholic liver disease remain unknown. Although there is clear correlation between the per capita alcohol consumption and death rates from hepatic cirrhosis in most Asian population there is very little evidence to suggest that alcohol itself is able to cause permanent structural damage to the liver.
