Abstract

The effect of some physico-chemical properties of 10 varieties of stored maize grains (Zea mays,L) was examined on the infestation of Sitophilus zeamais Motsch. and Corcyra cephalonica Stainton. The hardness of grain ranged from 21.25 to 27.50 kg/grain in different maize varieties. The minimum hardness was found in Shweta, whereas, it was maximum in Chandramani. The moisture content ranged from 11.25 to 13.89 percent being maximum in Shweta and minimum in Chandramani. Varieties having higher moisture and little hardness registered higher infestation, while those having lower moisture content and maximum hardness had less infestation The color of grain had no effect on the development and infestation of the pest.
