Abstract
Among academic subjects, social subjects, science subjects, languages and mathematics are major components in the school curriculum. Traditionally, social subjects include subjects like geography, history, civic education, as well as economics and, in Scotland, modern studies. Social studies is a main subject area in many educational systems in the world. Thus, this Article intends to give an overview about social studies in terms of its definition, history, components, aims and content in both global and Indian contexts
