In this paper I would like to show some similarities and dissimilarities which have been found in the Arabic novel ‘Laqiṭa’ (1947)’ and the Hindi film ‘Dil Aashna Hai’ (1992). The novel was written by famous Egyptian novelist Muhammad Abdul Halim Abdullah and the script of the film was written by Iqbal Durrani, Imtiaz Hussain and Suraj Sanim. Both the subject matters -in the novel and film- are similar in nature. As far as the novel is concerned the heroine ‘Laila’, did not get proper rearing in her childhood by her parents and thus grew up in a refuge called “Jim”. Afterwards, while she got puberty she came out from the refuge and started serving as a nurse in a hospital. She could not live in the hospital peacefully as other nurses disliked her being a foundling and also detested while getting marriage with upper class youth. In the same way, the film portrays a picture of a helpless orphan girl ‘Laila’ who was rearing up in a brothel confronted many questions about her life and identity in her youthfulness. Being a cabaret dancer she also lost her position in the society.
