Infant mortality rate is topic of statistics and statistics is branch of applied mathematics. Infant mortality rate can be obtained for any population for any time period. The data for infant deaths and live births required to calculate it. Infant mortality rate is very sensitive index of the health conditions of a community and reflects any changes in its health standards. It is observed that infant mortality rate is higher than mortality rate for any other age group in all over the world. Definitions of mortality rates, causes of infant mortality, preventions and interventions to decrease infant mortality rate and facilities provided by United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNISEF) to decrease infant mortality rates are discussed in this paper.
