Abstract

Organizations are increasingly looking at their employees or human resources as a unique asset that can provide competitive edge over other competitors. In this current era of globalization and cut throat competition not only from domestic but as well as foreign players, competitive advantage is necessary to sustain and survive for a long period of time. Globalization, continuous technological upgradation, never ending changes, increased focus on operating margins, managing workforce diversity made the organization to focus more on managing human resources. In this scenario, a human resource department (HRM) which lacks strategic integration fails the organization to achieve competitive advantage needed for survival and thereby losing its importance and relevance. In this paper I will be focusing on the importance of Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) and why it is essential and mandatory for the survival and growth of the company. This article first describes the word Strategy and move towards it focus on HRM at a strategic level highlighting its importance and need in the present era.
