Abstract

Manpower models create lot of interest due to the ready applicability in analyzing many practical situations arising at places like, government and non-government organizations. To have an efficient analysis it is needed to model the two graded manpower systems. In this paper we develop and analyze a two graded manpower planning model with three level recruitment in the initial grade. The recruitment processes, promotions processes and leaving processes are characterized through Poisson processes. Using the difference-differential equations the transient behavioral of the model is analyzed. The system characteristics of the model like joint probability generating function of the grade sizes, the average number of employees in each department of each grade, the variances of the grade sizes and covariances between the grade sizes, the mean duration of stay in each grade are derived explicitly. The sensitivity of the model is analyzed through numerical illustrations. It is observed that the recruitment rates and promotion rates have the tremendous influence on the grade size distribution.
