Abstract

INTRODUCTION The recent financial crisis has fuelled immeasurable anxiety among investors with regard to the assessment of investment opportunities in India. Uncertainty looms large, especially for asset classes that are traditionally classified as ‘risky’. For the better part of 2008, the equity market continued to drop, showing little strength to restrict the impact of negativity arising from the uncertainty in financial markets in developed countries. Real estate showed some resilience during 1H08, but succumbed to the unprecedented liquidity crunch stemming from the global financial turmoil. Property values dampened considerably in all the cities of the country during 2H08. Conversely, the bond market showed significant resilience as bond prices increased and bond yields decreased.
