Abstract

Being literate alone does not ensure a successful transition to independent living. For an individual, learning to learn and willingness to unlearn and change according to circumstances and relearn new skills are important in the present day world, as means of transformation in achieving higher levels of excellence for a successful living. Beyond reading, writing and arithmetic, a child’s ability to navigate this increasingly complex world requires a broad set of competencies: cognitive, social and practical. Around the world, Life Skills-Based Education (LSBE) is being adopted as a means to empower young people in challenging situations. LSBE refers to an interactive process of teaching and learning which enables learners to acquire knowledge and to develop attitudes and skills which support the adoption of healthy behaviour. There is an urgent need to introduce life skills education for the youngsters. Developing life skill helps the adolescents to translate knowledge, attitude and their health behavior. But presently our educational requirements are getting more stringent in all levels of education and students are experiencing considerable Stress. This paper attempts to focus on Stress Management from the Life Skills Education perspective in adolescents and how a teacher and parents can help adolescents to cope with stress in an ongoing process. Therefore, it is essential that children and adolescents are given opportunities to develop life skills that will help them effectively cope with daily stressors and major life events.
