Abstract

The sports psychologists make constant efforts in developing the mental skills of an athlete that are essential in the process of interacting with a specific environment and enables the athlete to channelize and meet the demands of the situations effectively (Lazarus, 1991; Mace & Correll, 1989 and Sinha & Singh, 2001). Scientifically, it’s the controlled human behaviour that ultimately is governed by the mental state, which becomes instrumental in bringing the desired results in sports performance. The effort is to move the athlete from an external locus of control to the internal one to overcome one’s own individualized stress responses.
