The Alpha Hydroxy acids (AHA) are naturally occurring organic acids . The oxidation of Glycolic acid pyridiniumdicromate has been studied spectrophotometrically in the presence of para-toluensulphonic acid (PTSA) in dimathyl sulphoxide (DMSO) as a solvent. Pyridinium dichromate (C5H5NH)2 Cr2O7 is an orange colored solid used as an oxidizing agent. PDC is less acidic than pcc (Pyridiniumchloro chromate) and hence is more suitable in the oxidation of acid sensitivity compounds.
