Abstract

India's energy consumption has doubled since 2000 and is anticipated to more than quadruple by 2040, accounting for a quarter of the worldwide growth during the same time period. India is the world's fourth largest consumer and user of electricity for its needs for power production and thermal energy requirements. In power generation sector India has a production capacity of 1,174 TWh (FY14). Despite being the world's third largest market in terms of gross electricity generation, India still has about 250 million people without electricity.
